WA Small Business Electricity Credit Now Open for Application

The Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC) is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the WA Small Business Electricity Credit. This joint State-Commonwealth funded initiative offers a $725 credit to eligible small businesses and charities that operate within embedded networks in Western Australia. The payment will be provided as a GST-free direct payment to qualified applicants.

Program Overview

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Small Business Electricity Credit, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Business Status: Must have held a valid and active ABN as a small business or charity on 17 June 2024 and during the application period.
  2. Electricity Consumption: Consume less than 50 megawatt hours (MWh) per year or incur less than $15,000 annually in electricity costs.
  3. Electricity Costs: Must have been incurring electricity costs on 17 June 2024.

Ineligible Applicants

The following entities are not eligible for the credit:

  • Government entities
  • Telecommunication providers
  • Authorised deposit-taking institutions
  •  Major mining or resources operators
  •  Accounts for temporary electricity supply during construction
  •  Accounts with electricity consumption exceeding 50MWh or costs over $15,000 in the 12 months prior to 17 June 2024

How to Apply

To apply for the Small Business Electricity Credit, eligible applicants must submit their applications through the SmartyGrants portal by 4:00pm on 31 January 2025. The following information and documents are required:

  1. Australian Business Number (ABN)
  2. Proof of Premises Ownership or Tenancy: Copy of rates assessment or tenancy agreement.
  3. Business Bank Statement: Unredacted PDF showing transactions from 1 April 2024 to 17 June 2024, including BSB, account number, and trading/business name.
